I'm of the opinion that almost any sport is fun as shit to watch if you're actually there, but on TV they mostly suck ass. Soccer, I think, is no different. I'm excited to hopefully get to a Sounders game this season, but I don't have much interest to watch them on TV... I do like the idea of becoming a soccer hooligan though.

My brother sent me a text last night about their 2-0 victory.  Sounders have a decent squad. 

I have an interesting history with the MLS, maybe someone can help me out. 

I was really into going to Earthquakes games when I lived in the Bay.  That's when they had Donovan, DeRossario, and my fave: Ching.  Then they moved the fuckin' tea like a buncha complete dicks and many of us swore to never support the league again.  Sidenote: San Jose did get a team back, but we lost all those great players, who ended up in Houston winning championships.  Weird. 

Then I move to Chicago and go to a few games.  Super fun.  I have a Blanco jersey and shit. 

But now my original home has a team, your fair Sounders, and my brother got me a jersey.  He has the inaugural season tickets and gets to vote on the GM and shit.  So I'm kind of a man without a country, who do I root for? 

All you dicks in Seattle are gonna say the Sounders, which is fine, but one of the big deal-breaker is that Drew Carrey is part owner.  That irks me to no end.

Just a little heads up for those unfamiliar with teams from Seattle, the city has had soccer teams and fans for decades.  I'm told my very first sporting event was in 1976 when the Sounders played the NY Cosmos. 

The Sounders existed before the Seahawks even.  And that's your history lesson for the day, Junior!

I played soccer for 10 years growing up. When I turned 18 and there were no more teams to play for, I kind of lost track of it. Never payed much attention to MLS or anything, but now that we have a pro team I'm really excited. I've been keeping track of everything via the newspaper and internet since the inception of the team, and when I watched that first match it totally re-ignited my passion for the sport. Hopefully I'll get to see them in person at least once this season, but I do plan on watching as often as I can on TV.
