There are a lot of stereo equipment stores in Seattle (Hawthorne Stereo is the one I like best) that I would suggest checking out before buying something on Craigslist.  At a store, you usually get a decent period of time where you can return it if it doesn't work right.  The only downside being that you probably wouldn't find a turntable for 35 bucks.

Goddammit, it seems like six months ago Goodwill had /piles/ of record players every time I went in. Then I decided I wanted one, and there's nothing. I should've jumped on this trend before it was so fucking trendy.

Two things to consider:
-how expensive and easy it will be to find a needle for a '70s turntable
-how expensive and easy it will be to find a belt for a '70s turntable

If you talk to the guy at P&N Needles at 65th and Roosevelt he can tell you. I have a couple old turntables I'd give away for free that need new needles, that's usually more expensive than the actual player when shopping for used ones (unless you're lookin' for DJ quality).

I'm starting to feel like I should just put down the $100 for a new one.

This is not a bad plan, or wait until garage sale season and buy one at those.  They always have them for like $5, then you can just bring it into that place on 65th and get it tuned up.

He works on everyone's turntables or hunts down the needles and parts for them. He's a dinosaur in today's world, when he closes up shop, it's pretty much over in Seattle for old turntable repair and parts.
