Official Mix Tape Thread
« on: May 15, 2009, 01:06:15 AM »

Sign up here to offer to make rad tapes for people or to request neat tapes from other members.  Talk about what you're into now and see what people think you need to listen to.  Come back and post about yr mix tape experience!

Address trading should probably be done by private messages.

This is something totally neat and constructive that this board could facilitate.

I fucking love making mixtapes. Unfortunately my setup right now consists solely of a turntable (I have a walkman for listening to tapes). Maybe when I move into my new place I'll invest in a cheap tape player.

Also, in addition to making tapes of a 'you need to hear this' nature, maybe we can throw out a theme for a tape to revolve around and see what people can come up with that represents it well, humorous or srs.

My setup consists of the same little boombox tape/cd player that I've had since I was 9 years old and would tape Queen and Pink Floyd on the radio.  Most of my music's digital, so I usually just burn to CD and then transfer to tape, though I don't usually get the opportunity to make tapes for people because no one's ever interested/no one has a tape player.

Iggy, how should we set this up?  Maybe we should give it like a few days so everyone who reads the board can sign up and then we'll just randomly assign each person a partner?  I guess after that each person is responsible for contacting their partner and working it out, like, asking what kind of music they're into or if they just want to be surprised or whatever?

A forum I was on years ago did mixes on soulseek. It started as just five songs you thought everyone should hear, and it eventually went on into various themes. It was pretty awesome.

The way I kind of envisioned it happening was people making a post and saying what they were into and asking for tapes from people, or offering to make tapes for anyone who PM'd them.  The partners thing is a cool idea too but personally I'd be hesitant to make a tape for someone that I don't really know very well because I usually try really hard to think about their taste and make something that will mesh well with that, but I dunno!

I think that holiday themed tapes would be an awesome tradition to do for the board, we could all mail tapes (or at least post song lists if we're cheapos without any blank tapes) for halloween, christmas, etc, just to see what people can come up with.

That said, I am a lonely punk and I am up for anything anyone wants to send me.

I really think I could only handle making one tape for one person at a time.  Or making one tape and duplicating it and sending it to everyone... Anyway, I'm pretty much down to join the club so count me in.

I think it'd be kind of cool to assign everyone a partner and give everyone like two weeks to do it, and then start another round where everyone gets a new partner... but yeah figure it out and let's make it happen!!!

Piece of cake.  I usually make a Halloween and Christmas tape every year anyway!

Hrm. I have a tape player, but it would take some work to actually make a mix tape... I'll have to figure out if it's possible.

Also, if you're looking for more people to trade mix tapes with, swapbot.com facilitates group trades of all kinds.

Sticky it. I mean, I'm not going to do it, but I think it's a good idea.

I actually classify CDs into the mix-tape classification nowadays as most people don't have cassette players..

So, people... If this actually happens, I'm down to partake in this fun activity..  Tell you what.. I'll have one done by next week (hopefully).. And whoever wants one, just stop on down at Easy Street to pick one up.. I'll make a few copies.
