I like going to hardcore shows every once in a while, Broadway Calls are extremely pop though and I can't imagine hardcore kids liking them.
But what do I know...
Most of the kids who are part of that Viaduct hardcore scene are way into New Found Glory.
Unrelated to your post, but in relation to this conversation, I finally feel like sharing something about the Viaduct.
I started posting on their board right when it was made. I wanted a place to promote my hardcore band, and to meet some new people. From the get-go I was generally basically ignored because I didn't live in Tacoma (they have some fierce Tacoma pride) and because I wasn't straight edge. Then my band was invited to play "NW Heavy Fest" in January with a bunch of other great bands. We of course jumped at the opportunity. When the show finally rolled around, there was basically no one at the show. The bands were playing to each other. Luckily there were like 12 bands so it kind of looked like people were there, but not anyone that payed to get in. Needless to say the bands didn't get paid, but whatever. We had fun (even though I was severely harassed by their sound guy [not Zack] for making a really dumb anti-christian inside joke on stage, but that's a whole other story), and that's all we cared about. By the next day on their board, all the people who run the venue were talking shit about the bands for "not promoting the show," and blaming the bands for the poor attendance. Of course they didn't take into consideration that most of the bands playing weren't from Tacoma, and I talked to a few of the other bands and NONE of us saw a single poster ANYWHERE in Tacoma for the show. Not to mention the fact that the Viaduct didn't even bother promoting it on their MySpace until the day before the show. So yeah, I have a little bit of a sour taste in my mouth about the Viaduct itself. And then to top it all off, I quit posting on their board because of a certain individual (not naming names) who basically bullied me off the board. Which I feel ridiculous about, because the dude's younger than me and in some crappy band. But for a while he just followed me around and any time I made a post, he would make some remark like, "don't even listen to this guy, he's bullshit" or "don't listen to this guy, he's a fucking joke." When I asked him what his problem was with me, he only stated it was because of my "bullshit between-song banter" at Heavy Fest. The only time I spoke between songs then was to thank the other bands, and to make my silly "anti-christian moshing" joke.
So anyway, yeah. I was already pretty sure my band would never play the Viaduct again, but now I guess I just solidified it. Oh well.
