Shit yes I'll go.

BUT!

You better put some reminders up or keep bumping this, otherwise I'll forget. I forget things on account of the drinking.

Steve Wiebe!!!  I loved King of Kong!!

Also, how crowded does this get?  This sounds so awesome but is there always a machine available to play or how does that work??

I heart pinball :)

Good question.  Am I going to have to be dealing with game hogs all day?

Last year it wasn't too packed, but some machines were definitely monopolized for long periods of time.  Also the Steve Wiebe talk was kind of hilarious.

Yeah, I help with this show, but mostly on the planning, promotions, sponsorship side, I had like 4 games there last year. The most crowded time was probably Saturday evening from like 5-11pm. Even then, you could still step up and play a game, but if you wanted to play say the brand new ones at the time (Shrek, Indiana Jones 4, Spiderman) you might have to wait behind a person or two. This year the arcade guys are bringing and extra 100 classic arcade games and it's expanded to another room, so it should be easy to get on games.

I think Steve Wiebe is actually going to try to win back the Donkey Kong record at this show, so he might be there playing the whole fucking time. He just broke the record on DK Jr. too. Walter Day is speaking and will be their all weekend, he's the crazy Twin Galaxies referee guy that's in the King of Kong (and also Chasing Ghosts and High Score if you've seen either). They are gonna do some arcade game hall of fame announcement with that dude and have all these world record attempts in some roped off area... although I can't imagine watching some guy play Asteroids for 18 hours straight is that thrilling, I more go just to play a shitload of games for 3 or 4 hours and play a bunch stuff I've never seen before. I love the D&D, dungeon, warrior, scantily clad chick '80s pins that remind of shitty weed, Journey and mullets. There will also be a bunch of prizes and raffles to win pinball machines and arcade games and a cash tournament for serious players. Here's video shot last year:

Do kids under 5 get in for free? I'd like to go but I'll have Coco with me and I don't want to have to pay $20 for her as she wont really be playing any of the games.

Yup!

Up to two children 5 and under are free with a paid adult and kids 6-14 are $15 each Fri or Sat, and $10 Sunday. Veterans get some discount too, I think the $15 rate.

There were a couple kids in the 5-8 range last year that were near pros, they showed up with little stools to stand on and kicked ass on pinball.

Yeah, the Shorty's regulars were all over the cash tournament last year and for the most part took it down. Portland has this punk pinball group/team/gang that all came up and were racking up the high scores in the tourney for a long time until the locals started stepping up and kicking ass. I did OK on a few machines, enough to get ranked nationally (if you play in this tournament and/or the annual Shorty's tournament, they are both sanctioned for national rankings, total pinball nerd-worthy. I did good enough to get ranked 1390th in the world, which cracks me up to no end).

So the pinball and arcade show is this weekend. And Saturday Steve Wiebe will be trying to defeat, once and for all, Billy Mitchell's high score on Donkey Kong. Which will be a total geekfest on top of the 250 games all on freeplay, I think they are projecting his game up on the wall at the venue (and attempting to do it streaming online, but apparently teh internets at the Seattle Center is pretty sucky).

Just go up and ask him, I'm sure a bunch of people will be doing the same thing. Last year he posed for a ton of photos and was super cool about it.

I'm currently thinking about going down on Saturday, early morning until 5pm. I might be able to be convinced for Friday instead.
