tonight might be one of the better nights in NW music history. the last ever shows of schoolyard heroes and kane hodder. WIN!

Preach it, brotherman.

Quote from: kileiselectric
the dudes did botch because all are HUGE botch fans. and did it very fucking well. Hodder didn't do "anything" right? you'd change your tune if you saw them on friday. when you somehow are able to fit almost everyone in a venue onto a stage singing the word to your songs at the top of their lungs then everyone ending up on their backs smiling and still singing. You have done something right. so camelron. you can suck it. schoolyard is horrible.

Listen, I understand these guys are your friends or something. Whatever. It's just that in the scheme of all the music that's out there, the last thing I want to listen to is some fucking 30 year-old nerd who stuffs himself into children size extra-small t-shirts singing like a fucking spazzy emo kid right before the faux-tough "we used to listen to hardcore" breakdown comes in. And furthermore, I understand listening to hardcore and also listening to other music - I've got a more diverse record collection than 99% of anyone you'll ever meet. But there are two things in this world that don't belong together, and that is hardcore and spazzy-nerd-emo-kid singing. If these jokers "respected" hardcore in any way at all, they would have realized that before they molested the genre. I don't care how "fun" they/you think it sounds, it sucks. And I don't care how many people jump onstage and rub bellies with that sweaty man-boy, I have no respect for the music they make, and I have a hard time taking anyone seriously who does.

and you know what, they could be super nice people, i dont need to like their music. hell, didnt the schoolyard heroes used to live with alithea? its one of those bands that blew up when there were so many more talented, better bands around. i feel that way about dredg and whatever that other band was with a similar name that came out of the south bay when i was living there. there are a few more locals that i shall not name because i dont want to hurt friends' feelings, but my god some bands are so overrated.

its not about them selling out places. its about how much these dudes have actually affected people. this band brought so many different groups of people together to just sing and dance.i wont expect you to care for them but to say they havent done anything  is something i take personal being one of the kids from kitsap that has been affected by this band in huge way. you just sound like a huge asshole. its just something you dont "get". I'll be the first to admit most hardcore I dont "get".Yes i'm friends with the dudes. but it doesnt make any difference. i'm not gonna argue on the point anymore because its ridiculous. but the band definitely did do something is all i'm saying.

Aaron Yost (Kane Hodder's 2nd bass player) is a friend of mine. I've told him I think the band is fucking terrible. He likes it and has fun doing it. We're cool.

It's just music, people.

i like plenty of bands other people think are horrible, so i know where you are coming from. but most of them dont get the adulation that those band did. i also know they pulled some rockstar shit on bands they knew that we are all friends with. so dumb. but lets change the subject....natalie portman's shaved head -----> GO!

That's the difference you have to understand - they've done something to/for you, not for music. And also, now I understand your perspective - you are not someone who grew up listening to hardcore. Which I guess is where most Kane Hodder fans come from. You all think it's OK for them to go molest some Botch riffs because "they love Botch." Well there are those of us who grew up listening to hardcore and when you hear some band dumb it down and put poppy parts in it so more people "get it," it really just misses the point.

I honestly don't care if I sound like one. Hardcore is something I care about and am very passionate about.

ah but then turn it around. i shall play devil's advocate. what if some old time punker said all these things about those bands you liked, and how they perverted punk music and made it way worse...is it not the same thing?

I've said that about half the 90s pop punk bands most of you listen to  :) I love arguing about music though, it's what makes you rethink your stances and check out bands again that people seem really passionate about to see if there is something you missed.

To each their own, my man. I don't like any of the modern tough-guy bullshit either (with the exception of Hatebreed's first record, which is really just nostalgia because this really cute girl I dated in high school used to listen to it non-stop).

hell, didnt the schoolyard heroes used to live with alithea?

yep!

i think that the people in kane hodder are talented and i can recognize how tight they are when they are on the ball. in fact, i think nick (who left kane hodder to join 3 inches of blood) is an exceptionally good bass player. but, do i like them or listen to them? nope. i did go to the show on saturday to support them and had a pretty good time. and! i realized that if i hadn't gone to see them in olympia when i first moved back from chicago nearly 6 years ago, my life would be radically different.

my only gripe with schoolyard is that its hard for me to get into a band that wears their obvious influences so heavily on their sleeves.

Mmmm...ska... there's one band I didn't get into too late, but in fact saw them almost every single show (minus most the ones this year)... The Diablotones. And now that I am thinking about it, I shall start a new thread......

I don't care how many times I have to say this, but I don't care if that's what it makes me look like. In fact, I do judge most people on what they listen to. So fucking what? I'm shallow and an elitist prick.
