OWTH on Epitaph now?
« on: December 16, 2009, 03:18:17 PM »

I've heard through the internets that OWTH is signing to Epitaph for their next album.  Anyone know any truth to this?  If its true, I'm happy for them and it would be seem step in the right direction for Epitaph.

Hardly a reputable source (hence why I raised the question/doubt):

It's taken about a year for this shit to go down it would seem.  Good for them though.

Yeah, I don't know if it's for sure 100% truth, but it definitely sounded like it a couple weeks ago, expecially since they were paying for the guys to go into the studio last week.

Epitaph used to be a reputable punk label. Now they just follow trends and try to pick up bands that sound like whats popular to the major labels. I could be wrong but Emo and Metal/Screamo bands seems to be all I hear from them now. It would be very hard for them to change my opinion of them now.

True, but this could be a sign, the beginning of the return of the real music.

OWTH on Epitaph would be a step in the right direction. The Copyrights or Dear Landlord would be as well.

I totally disagree.

The fact that epitaph signs this band YEARS after they really should've doesn't do anything for the label or the band.

To me it shows just how behind the times they are.  If they want to be relevant again they need to being puting out debut albums of awesome stuff not shit everyone already knows about.

I don't see much truth in this.  I mean, sure they should have signed them years ago based on the fact of how good that first EP was, but they were pretty much unknown a year ago with the exception of people who really had their finger on the pulse.  They didn't have a solid enough base set at the time they got picked up by No Idea.  Changing members all the time, inconsistent 7" performances.  They only recently really started bashing out high quality recordings and shows.

They should have got signed after hospitals due only to the response to that BUT I can't imaging them ever really getting their shit together line up wise or getting show consistancy

They could tour with Converge!  Br00tal!  Nothing on the Epitaph site.  They did just sign Alkaline Trio though.

Alkaline Trio now owns part of Epitaph. sort of.  They have their own sub-label like Hellcat or Anti-

Like I said earlier in the thread, it's not 100% official yet, but they did pay for the recording of the new album.

Oh yeah, I read they started the label to release their upcoming album.

You should've signed DL, that is a fantastic record.

I saw this.  Although epitaph has put out some shitty stuff, good for them.  I'm happy as long as the record's good and I don't have to go see them at Showbox Sodo.  :)

Epitaph is so shitty now that I don't know if this is a good thing for them.  Epitaph has a band on their roster that named themselves after an Aiden song.  If the record is good than the record is good but I don't know if this is a great thing for either party.
