Let this be the NWPB's first and foremost SEAHAWKS thread!
« on: April 03, 2009, 10:13:47 AM »

I say we start this off by sharing a brief history of our Hawks fan-dom and we'll go from there.  For me it's like this...

I'm born and raised in Washington, but I grew up a Houston Oilers fan because I loved former Husky QB Warren Moon.  Always went to games as a kid (especially Seattle versus Houston!), but when the Oilers were gone and as Moon ended up in Seattle, I knew where to place my loyalties.  My brother currently holds his 2nd generation season tickets and I try to see games whenever I am back in town.

Helluva tale, no?

I've watched every single Seahawks game for the last 10 years on TV, but have never seen them live as an adult. Which is sad, but the tickets are pretty damn spendy. My dad took me to a few games as a kid in the early '80s, but sadly before the Chuck Knox era. I totally remember them playing the "Chuck Knox let me rock you, let me rock you Chucka Knox" that was a take off of the Chaka Kahn song on the radio as a kid.

football sucks

You don't know what you are talking about...have you *been* to a Seahawks game??  They are the best!

I moved to WA in 2006...went to a game once football season started b/c Chris loves football...first game was NOT enjoyable at all!  It was the night of the rainstorm and wind craziness (Dec. 14, 2006)...haha, I know the date cause it was the day before my birthday...Anyway, I was soaked to the bone...not one piece of clothing on my body was dry and I was miserable and crying at halftime.  BUT, I lasted the whole game and I've been a fan ever since...

God, I love football and I love the Seahawks!  Go Hawks!

I would love to.  I managed to get one game in last year.  The plan is to be back in the PNW before Winter sets in again in Chicago.  I'm kinda stuck here through October though because of my "work".

here's my story...
my family has had season tickets since 1987 when our neighbors moved to kentucky. i remember crying in 1989 when steve largent retired. he was my favorite. one time i mailed him some cards to sign, which he did, but he also signed them GOD BLESS and sent me a pamphlet on christianity!

yes, in 1992 i was at every game when they went 1-7 at home (2-14 overall)! that win was awesome though. OT win where Stan Gelbaugh lead the Hawks back to tie it right at the end of the game! that place was nuts. the kingdome was such a great place for games!

in 1993 we moved from our seats in the corner of the endzone on the 200 level next to the press box to my parents' friend's seats that were the last row of the lower section of the 100 level (so a great view) on the 45 yard line. we always had so many fans of the team around us, and as a little kid i talked major shit.

then this happened:

we still have the tix from that account, as they are from the original season and we always get first dibs on buying extra playoff tickets!

in the new stadium we are on the 100 level on the 5 yard line because they wanted a $10k deposit for a seat license. my sounders club seats are better, but i do love these ones! ive missed only 3 home games since moving back to seattle in 2003 (including in major snow the night before i had major surgery back in 2006, and a few weeks later after my surgery when i really should not have been somewhere that noisy...but to be fair, i wasnt supposed to go, my sister ws supposed to go and she and her boyfriend were in a huge barfight the night before and he was messed up and their friend was in the hospital).

If I weren't a Seahawks fan, my family would disown me. My aunt used to work for John L Scott and she used to sell all the Hawks houses. My dad's best friend runs a bar/grill in Kirkland called The Game, where a lot of the players go to eat, a lot. My mom, grandma, and aunt all have their own "Seahawk room" where they keep all their memorabilia. My mom's season tickets are the most important thing in the world to her, and will take getting them above any and everything else.

My dad wouldn't even watch football if it weren't for my mom.

I'm a fourth generation Washington native... the Seahawks are my boys. I've only been to 3 games... 2 in the Kingdome and 1 in Qwest Field. But fuck, I love that team. I don't care how shitty we play.

My grandma has had season tickets since the team's inception and has not missed a game. No, she is not Mama Blue. Mama Blue is a fucking poser compared to my grandma.

I just bought a Seahawks bathrobe last week. I heart it.

I'm a hater, but I keep up on the team so I can rub it in my drummer Ben's face when they lose. I also called their record last season on the day of their first game, so I was pretty proud of that.

Being a Seahawks naysayer is like commending yourself for speaking out against the holocaust.  Nothing special about it!

I never said there was. I was mostly just sharing that I called their record.

I remember that one homegame they won.  My dad had tickets in the endzone where they had some goal line stands.

I love the Seahawks more than any other sports team.  I am in Arizona, and have been making fun of the Cardinals for 3 days straight now.  Yesterday I high fived a dude in a seahawks shirt.  BOOM!

I grew up in California. I was a Raiders fan...I know...I know...I'm ashamed as well. My first Seahawks experience was in 1997. My uncle was a sports writer. I'm pretty sure it was for the Seattle Times. I think he did something on the radio too. But he got us some tickets to the Raiders vs Seahawks game. So we flew to Seattle for that. The Seahawks came back from like a 14 point deficit to win. That was my 1st and only experience at the King Dome. I think the thing I remember most was how steep and little the steps were on the 200 level. I remember thinking that it would be very easy for a drunk to slip and fall off. I returned to California where I remained a Raiders fan until 2004.

In 2004 I was assigned to McChord AFB. My nextdoor neighbors in the dorm, both had Season tickets. One of them was moving to Florida, so he said that if I wanted to take over the seats that he would call and have the rights transferred over to me. Season tickets were only $400. I just love football, so I figured going to games would be fun. Besides, I didn't feel guilty cheering for the hawks because they weren't in the Raiders division anymore. Anyhow, I went to all the games, fell in love with the Seahawks, and I've had season tickets ever since. I live in Germany, and I still have season tickets. Kinda funny, Toby's brother has the seats directly behind mine. We plan on moving back to Seattle, and there's no fucking way I'm getting stuck on a waiting list!

I think my favorite Seahawk moment that I was there for, was the end of the Wildcard game against the Cowboys in 2007. Romo bobbling the ball. I think that was the craziest I've ever seen that stadium get. Crusher was there.

FUCK THE RAIDERS!

hey if they wanna make that sign fine, just dont show it on the big screen.

more importantly, how can you get away with that at a hawks game, but at an M's game you cant even wear a yankees suck shirt. fucking mariners.

Holy shit, they actually put it on the big screen?  That's fucked.

I'm kidding about the sign being acceptable, btw.  I am from South King County, mind you, so I put nothing past those rubes.
