What was your first punk show?
« on: September 19, 2009, 08:53:56 PM »

The first punk show I saw was the Jack Trippers play at the silverdale community center back in 94' I think. Magnified Plaid played there a lot too back then.

my first BIG punk show was Rise Against (circa the unraveling) swinging utters and NOFX...and I think Teen Idols opened

My first pop punk show was A Wilhelm Scream, Lawrence Arms and Lagwagon at the House of Blues in Hollywood. I did see New Found Glory for free at the Santa Anita Racetrack sometime in middle school though... some radio promo, I think.

an older neighbor dragged me to a hardcore show in the city when i was in the summer between fifth and sixth grade.   it was a straight edge hardcore kind of deal.  one of the bands played was called CHALKLINE, i know that because i still have their 7" (it's terrible)!

i talked to this stranger for what seemed like a long time and then later on he was singing in a band.  it was pretty inspiring to me, i guess!  now i know any dingbat can sing or play in a punk band.

i bought my first 7" there, too, so that probably explains the whole record collecting thing.

I remember going to a friend's band show in middle school, I can't remember what they called themselves, but they sucked really bad and were probably in the top ten worst punk bands ever, but it was still fun because punk shows didn't come to Pullman, probably still don't...

Was that rise against show @ DV8? I saw NOFX play with them @ Showbox and it was a 21 and over show(best time seeing them) and the next night was at DV8. Rise Against sucks ass in my opinion.

My first punk show was in 95 I believe with the Jimmies and the Weakerthans.  It was in a warehouse in the middle of nowhere in Kelso.  I remember it being the scariest, and most awesome show I had ever been to.  I had been near shows before this, but had never stuck around until the music started, so never saw the bands, but I met a ton of people who led me to go to this and get permission from my parents to stay out late.

That was the beginning of the end.

I saw the two shows up in BC...there was no Teen Idols there. Bummer.

My first big one, was a big one at Mercer arena.  Sept. 95 Green Day, Insomniac tour.  The Riverdales opened.  My ears rang for a week.  The Mariners were on fire.  Rancid played the next week.

My first was a local band from Snohomish called Those Guys. I can't remember where exactly I saw them, but it was in Snohomish for sure. This was probably 1996, I was 15 years old. My parents didn't let me start going to "real" shows in Seattle until I was 16.

The Queers, Elmer, somebody else in Salem, OR.  I forget where.  Fall of 95, went straight to this show after seeing The Rentals open for Alanis Morrissette, I guess we caught about 10 sec of Hand in My Pocket.  With my pals Mykel and Carli.

A few weeks later Green Day and the Hi Fives in Portland, OR at the Memorial Coliseum which wasn't really a punk show except for the Hi Fives.

A few weeks after that the Queers and the Hi Fives at Stage Four in Portland, OR.

Like Chris said, the beginning of the end.

Mine was Bad Religion right after they put out No Control in 1989 I believe...Oh wait...I lied, I saw Desendents when i was like 8yrs old with my cousin (Doesn't really count because all I remember from it was that it was loud and everyone was older than me)...I used to love all that old so-cal skate-punk stuff from the late 80's/early 90's.

I saw the Jimmies in '93 or '94 in Longview. I still see a lot of the same people out and about at shows in Longview...which is both awesome and sad simultaneously. I think my first BIG punk show was Rancid and Lunachicks or something lame like that????

Are the Mighty Mighty Bosstones "punk?"  If not, then I didn't see a punk show until Warped 2001.  Sigh.  I feel like a poseur now... :'(

There's no way DV8 still existed when Rise Against were around.  It was long gone by 2001, wasn't it?
